At RRL, we recognise that “business sustainability” encompasses various aspects, but fundamentally, it entails reducing negative environmental impacts from business activities. We believe that measuring and reporting on environmental impact will increasingly become a pivotal measure of business performance, driven by consumer demand, supplier expectations, recruitment needs, staff retention, and financing requirements. As an accountancy firm, we’re well-positioned to assist clients in this endeavour.
Our commitment to Business Sustainability
Our commitment to sustainability is exemplified by our pursuit of becoming a Net Zero accountancy firm. We’ve initiated the development of a comprehensive business sustainability strategy for our own operations and for supporting clients in measuring and mitigating their environmental impact. Our first steps involve collaborating with the climate action platform Net Zero Now, to calculate our carbon emissions and devise reduction plans, thereby laying the groundwork for assisting clients in their reporting efforts.
Beyond Net Zero: Addressing Biodiversity Loss
While achieving Net Zero emissions is crucial for managing global warming, it’s not the sole focus of sustainable business practices. Attention must also be directed towards addressing biodiversity loss and other environmental challenges. Recognising the vast agenda of becoming a sustainable business can be daunting, but initiating action is paramount.
Empowering Businesses for Environmental Impact
RRL believes in leveraging its position as an accountancy firm to empower businesses in understanding and mitigating their environmental impact, contributing to biodiversity preservation and overall sustainability. Our journey towards this goal begins with raising awareness within our firm about all facets of sustainability, particularly biodiversity and our collective impact on the natural environment.
Staff Engagement and Education
To foster this awareness, we’ve organised a series of events aimed at educating and engaging our staff. These events include visits to local conservation areas like Newquay Orchard and Fentenfenna Farm, as well as participation in educational programmes led by organisations like Cornwall Wildlife Trust. These initiatives not only enhance our understanding of nature but also underscore our commitment to minimising our environmental footprint.
Sustainable Practices at RRL
In addition to awareness-raising efforts, we’ve implemented various sustainable practices within our firm, including:
- Measuring our carbon footprint with Net Zero Now to establish a baseline.
- Partnering with renewable energy providers.
- Implementing waste reduction measures such as composting and Terracyle Zero Waste boxes.
- Adopting recycled paper and stationery, and minimising printed materials through paperless practices.
- Ethical sourcing practices and evaluating the sustainability credentials of our supply chain.
- Providing eco-friendly amenities such as bamboo toilet paper, sustainable and ethical cleaning products, and organic food and snacks for staff.
- Offering subsidised health checks to promote staff well-being.
Ongoing Commitment to Sustainability
These initiatives represent just a fraction of our ongoing commitment to sustainability. We remain dedicated to implementing further actions and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility within our firm and beyond. By embracing sustainable practices, we not only fulfil our ethical obligations but also create value and enhance long-term resilience.
Join Us on Our Sustainability Journey
As we continue on our journey towards sustainability, we invite others to join us in making a positive impact on the planet. Together, we can build a more sustainable future for generations to come.
